Fly Fishing on the River 2022

This program is supported by the 2022 Virginia Wildlife Grant Program through a partnership between the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources and the Wildlife Foundation of Virginia.  It is hosted by the Shenandoah Reel Women (SRW) in partnership with the Friends of the North Fork of the Shenandoah River (FNFSR). 

During these camps, young women will be mentored by established SRW members and volunteers.  While they are introduced to the art of fly fishing, they will learn the basics of knot tying, the use of appropriate equipment, and good casting techniques.  Activities will also include river entomology and watershed conservation education.

Day Camp:  June 13-14, and 16, 2022 (Mon, Tue, and Thur) 9am-3pm

Where:  Seven Bends State Park, Woodstock, VA

Cost:  $45 (enrollment limited to 15, scholarships available) Rods, reels and necessary equipment will be available for participants’ use during the three-day workshop and for additional summer fishing activities.  The girls will build their own tool lanyards, which become their personal property at the camp conclusion.

Overnight Camp:  June 26, 2022 (Sunday lunch) – June 30, 2022 (Thurs afternoon)

Where:  Shenandoah River State Park (SRSP), Bentonville, VA

Cost:  $125 (enrollment limited to 12, scholarships available).  Rods, reels, and tool lanyards will be available for use during camp and will become the property of these participants upon completion of the program.  This camp includes a 5-day 4-night stay at the SRSP lodge, including all meals and snacks.

Once you have completed your registration, you will receive a digital receipt and SRW program administrator, Joan Chapman, will be in touch with the necessary paperwork to complete your child’s enrollment.
