HYDROFRACTURING - Good Temporary News!
Carrizo LLC is no longer "actively pursuing" a special use permit to hydrofrack near Bergton.

Marcellus Shale: Potential Hydrofracturing Site near Broadway

The Rockingham Board of Supervisors has tabled making a decision on whether or not to approve a special use permit submitted by Carrizo (Marcellus) LLC, of Houston, Texas,  that would allow the initial exploration and future development of a natural gas well near the town of Broadway.  This type of exploration involves a method known as hydrofracturing.

View the following videos to learn more about hydrofracturing.  These videos were produced at a May 2010 informational workshop by the Shenandoah Valley Network.

Thankfully, the company just stated publicly that due to local opposition to the permit, they are concentrating their efforts elsewhere for the near future.  This is a bit of a reprieve but we must stay vigilant and continue to build a strong case for water quality and quantity protection related to this type of drilling endeavor.  Click below to learn more.
